PARTICIPATION/AWARENESS/FUNCTION/CELEBRATION
October, 2003 (DSCO-SIM)
The Simsanggre Soil Conservation Division participated in the
"People’s Development Meet" organized by the Deputy
Commissioner, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar on 8th & 9th October, 2003
at Kharkutta C.D. Block and on 21st & 22nd October, 2003 at Dambo
Rongjeng C.D. Block in collaboration with the respective C & R D Block
Office.
The Division also participated in the District Level Exhibition held
from 5th to 7th November, 2003 at Williamnagar organized by the District
Industries Centre, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar.
19th December, 2003:
The Directorate of Soil Conservation, Shillong, organized a
Pre-Christmas Service at the departmental premises at Cleve Colony,
Shillong. The Message was delivered by Rev. (Dr) J.F. Jyrwa whereby,
prayers and songs were rendered on the occasion. The Service was chaired
by Shri A. Syiem, Joint Director of Soil Conservation (Hq).
The Soil Conservation officials attending the function include Shri
M.S. Rao, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Soil Conservation Department,
officers and staff of the Department and invitees.
VISITS AND INSPECTIONS
11th July 2003 {DSCO – SHG (T)}
Shri D.P. Wahlang, IAS., Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District
along with Shri H.M. Shangpliang, MCS., Project Director, DRDA, visited
Umjilieng Micro-Watershed, Integrated Wasteland Development Project (IWDP),
East Khasi Hills District and visited the composite nursery at Pomlum.
Shri Wahlang also met the members of Umjilieng Watershed Association &
Committee including members of Sadew & Lad Mawreng Self Help Groups.
Other Rural Development Schemes were also discussed and an inter-action
with the villages was held in a cordial atmosphere.
22nd August, 2003 [DSCO – SHG. (T)]
Shri D.P. Wahlang, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District
and Chairman of District Watershed Development Committee (DWDC) along with
Shri H.M. Shangpliang, MCS., Project Director, DRDA, Member Secretary,
Integrated Wasteland Development Project visited Umiew Micro-Watershed. They met the President and Chairman of Umiew Watershed
Association and Committee, Watershed Volunteers and Members of different
Self Help Groups formed within the project area. They appreciated the
works under Integrated Wasteland Development Project IWDP and were very
much satisfied with its 1st year of implementation and they hoped that
people would stand to benefit when the project is completed.

On the same day, the Deputy Commissioner and the team of officers also
visited the Umtongsyiem Micro-Watershed and had an interaction with the
President and Chairman of the Umtongsyiem Watershed Association and
Committee including members of different Self-Help Groups.

3rd Sept. 2003 [DSCO. SHG. (T)]
Shri N.K. Das, National Level Monitor for Rural Development, Ministry
of Rural Development, Government of India, visited the Umtongsyiem
Micro-Watershed Nursery Integrated Wasteland Development Project (IWDP) at
Mawsawa and had a meeting with the members of the Umtongsyiem Watershed
Committee Watershed Volunteers and members of different Self Help Groups,
whereby, he was impressed with the various activities taken up under the
Integrated Wasteland Development Project (IWDP) projects.

Shri N.K. Das, National Level Monitor, Ministry of Rural Development (GOI)

23rd Sept., 2003 (DSCO – Nongpoh)
Shri D.Keori, National Level Monitor for Rural Development, Ministry of
Rural Development, Government of India, made a visit to Umkhlen and Umtham
Watershed under Ri-Bhoi Soil Conservation Division. Inspected the works
under Entry Point Activities, Peripheral Bunding, Bench Terraces, and
Horticulture etc.
25th September, 2003 (DSCO-Shg-T)
Shri M.S. Rao, I.A.S., Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of
Meghalaya, Soil Conservation Department along with Shri K.L. Tariang,
Director of Soil Conservation visited the composite nursery at Smit
village, under Umiew Micro-Watershed (IWDP) in which they had an interaction
with members of the Umiew Watershed Association and Committee on matters
relating to the implementation of the Programme. There after, visited the
composite nurseries of Umtong Syiem Micro-Watershed and Umjilieng
Micro-Watershed (IWDP) and interacted with members of the respective
Watershed Association and Watershed Committee for smooth implementation of
the programmes.

26th Sept. 2003 (DSCO - Nongpoh)
Under Ri-Bhoi Soil Conservation Division, Shri D.Keori, National Level
Monitor, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, visited the
Middle Umtyrli Watershed and had discussion with the Chairman of the
Watershed Committee. He also inspected the works being implemented like
Contour Bunds, Protection Walls, Afforestation, Horticulture and
Terracing. |
